Dressing for your body shape: Pear-shape

WHAT IS A PEAR-SHAPED BODY?
The pear-shaped body is the most common female body shape. Grab a mirror and take a look: If your hips and backside are wider than your shoulders, you're the lucky owner of a pear-shaped body. Pear-shaped bodies typically have a smaller bustline as well. Depending on your overall proportions, bustier pears may actually be an hourglass body style.

STYLISTS' SECRETS: DRESSING A PEAR-SHAPED BODY
Style challenges include finding clothing items that fit both your waist (tiny) and your hips (a bit wider). Dresses can be a challenge because slim-cut fashion may not flare enough to accommodate the bottom half of your pear-shaped body while remaining tailored to the top half of your body.

HOW TO DRESS A PEAR-SHAPED BODY

1.      Focus attention upward. Pear-shaped women should focus attention on the upper half of their pear-shaped body by choosing slim, fitted tops, button-down shirts and cardigans.

2.      Embellish around the neck. Shirts and dresses with embellished necklines naturally draw the eye upward toward the slimmest part of a pear-shaped body.

3.      Layer it up. Layering garments can balance a pear-shaped body by adding visual interest to the top half of the body.

4.      Go for an A. A-line dresses and tops emphasize the upper body while slimming wider hips characteristic of a pear-shaped body.

5.      Wide is good. Keep the hems of pants, skirts and dresses wide to visually balance a pear-shaped body. Pointy-toed shoes with a wide-hemmed pants will elongate your legs.

6.      Get a little structure. Structured pants are a great fit, especially those that skim the hips and thighs of a pear-shaped body. Avoid flashy embellishments like cargo pants, funky pockets or embroidery.

WHICH CELEBRITIES HAVE A PEAR-SHAPED BODY?
Christina Aguilera, Eva Longoria, Paris Hilton and Rihanna all have pear-shaped bodies.

Finding your face shape

1 Choose a bathroom with good lighting and make sure you can see your full face.Stand in front of the mirror. You’ll need a tape measure, a piece of paper and a pen to write down your measurements.

2 Start by measuring across the top of your cheekbones. Place the end of your tape measure just past the outer corner of your eye. This is your start point. Then, carefully lay the tape measure in a straight line across the bridge of your nose to just past the outer corner of your other eye. This is your end point of measurement. The tape measure should be resting on the top of the “apples” of your cheeks, or just on top of your cheekbones

3 Read the number at the end point and write down this measurement.

4 Measure your jaw line next. Measure across the widest part of your jaw.

5 Multiple the number at the end point by two and write down this measurement.

6 Measure your forehead now. Place the start point of the measuring tape on one side of your forehead at the widest point (usually halfway between your eyebrows and your hairline). Run the measuring tape along your forehead until you come to the same point on the opposite side of your head.

7 Read the number at the end point and write down this measurement.

8 Finally, measure the length of your face. Start at the middle of your hairline. Run the measuring tape down your face, over your nose, to the tip of your chin.

9 Read the number at the end point and write down this measurement.

10 Determine your face shape

  • Round Face - Your face is as wide as it is long. This may vary a little but generally the measurement is close.
  • Oblong - Longer than it is wide.
  • Heart - Narrow at jaw line, wide at cheekbones/and or forehead.
  • Square - your face is about as wide as it is long.
  • Diamond - Widest at cheekbones, narrow forehead and jaw line of approximately equal widths.

Dressing for your shape: Hourglass

Lucky you! You have the Hourglass body type that most women strive for. Your bust and hips are well balanced and you have a beautifully defined waist. Your have gently rounded shoulders that align nicely with your hips. Your waist is obvious and gracefully curves out to your hips. You most likely have a rounded bottom and beautiful side as well as front profile. Your upper body is proportionate in length to your legs which are shapely. From top to bottom, you are a picture of harmony and balance.

Tops

Look for tops that will accentuate your waist and maintain the balanced look of your figure. Look for:
    Belted tops.
Tops with banding or nipping at the waist.
    Form-fitting tops.
    Wrap-style tops.
Tailored shirts and jackets andscooped or V necks as these will accentuate your bust.

Bottoms

Lucky you! You can wear most any bottoms as long as you pair them with the proper top. Try the following:    High-waisted pants and pencil skirts.
Boot cut & straight leg pants.
Skirts that will show off your great legs.
Skinny jeans and pants paired with a balanced top.

Cargos or flap pocket jeans paired with a balanced top.

Swimsuits

You will look great in most swim suits. The key is to keep your proportions balanced. Look for:    Tops with straps that sit mid-way across the shoulder.
Match colors and patterns of your top and bottom.
Balanced ruffles, padding and embellishments can enhance your curves.
Bottoms that cut straight across your hips.
Strapless or bandeau tops.

Dresses

As you should know by now you have been blessed with easiest body shape to dress. Nothing needs to be hidden or enhanced since your shape is already proportional and you can pull off just about any dress you choose!

Although you can pull off almost all dress styles and shapes you do need to be careful when it comes to pattern or embellishment. Stay away from heavily beaded or over embellished dresses, they tend to make you appear heavier than you actually are and can leave you looking unbalanced.

Don’t!

Avoid bulky material

On tops and blouses you will need to avoid high necklines like turtlenecks as they draw attention away from the waist, also it would be a good idea to stay away from frills around the hem of a top as these will add width to your hips when you don’t need it making you look unbalanced.
